Where i am from, its hard to find fans of my favorite NBA team, the Washington Wizards. I've been a fan since around the 1999 season, so i went through ALL the hard times this team has gone through. I remember back at home in Fairfax, watching the games was like a family event. My brothers and I would lay in our couches and watch the game right after dinner. Then my dad would come and join us. My dad isnt a very patient fan he often has tons of stuff to say during the game and critiques the players in such a unique way. He would always say ohh are they playing blind people or something?? He always likes to joke around. Back when the Wizards were horrible (like they are now) my dad often left and went to his office saying "the more i watch the more it hurts my heart". He said its like when he watches the Bolivia Soccer team play, he gets so into the game and prays for a win, but often is let down haha. Back to Basketball, but eventually the WIzards got it together and started making the Playoffs consistently with the additions of Antawn Jamison, Gilbert Arenas, and Caron Butler. Things were looking up then and especially this season with the addition of more solid players like Mike Miller and Randy Foye. But unfortunately....things did not add up like Wizards fans hoped
Why is our record sooo bad now?? why arent all the players playing well together?! But the biggest distraction has to be Gilbert Arenas. GILBERT!???? why did you have to get into legal trouble with the whole gun fiasco????? He was starting to become elite superstar status unill this incident happened. For those who dont know, he was caught bringing guns to the locker room after a game, but things get really confusing with what really happened. But either way Gilbert really let me down, i used to be able to brag about him and say yeah we're doing bad this year but we do have gilbert and hes a superstar. But now i can say well, we have nice broadcasters for out team? haha but i will always stay a fan of them no matter what happens. I just wish they could maybe step it up and get into the playoffs, especially since the owner Abe Pollin passed away during this season. It would be a good heart warming story if the Wizards could make the playoffs.

That will be the day...I can't imagine the Wizards in the playoff. I'm not the biggest Wizards fan, I personally am in love with the SUNS! They have a good team to me and I just love Steve Nash
ReplyDeleteI love the details about the sports-watching time at your house, and I feel like I get a little sense of what your dad is like, Andy. I'd love for you to write more descriptive stuff about your family/personal stories, etc., just 'cause it seems like you're good with detail.
ReplyDeleteI predict that the WIzards will have their day... not too far off. If not this year, in the next 2 or 3 years. Mark my words!
I think the whole Arenas incident was blown out of proportion... Just a media buzz, and because GA is such a "colorful" character -- easy story. I mean, I believe in gun control, but it seems like the kind of thing that has probably happened tons of times -- or something like it -- that is off but because he got caught and because it's Gilbert Arenas it becomes this huge thing.
Don't know what the Suns have to do with anything, Bacon but I <3 Steve Nash too -- what's not too love. You guys would make a cute couple. :p
Andy, you just wait man, The Wizards will have their day...I can feel it. The Gilbert thing was kind of ridiculous. Not what he did, but how much attention the issue got. It was blown a bit out of proportion in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI don't know anything about the wizards. sorry :)
